Knoppix is a "live distribution" of Linux which requires no install. No changes are made to the hard disk drive and its therefore quite good for trying Linux. But even that can be troubling to get working without any clues! So, how?
You will need:
# A live knoppix CD
# A PC with CD reader.
# Be a brave with some spare time.
Prepare an ISO Image CD with the Knoppix Distribution and be sure that have the minimal requirement in your PC.
Download the ISO image from http://www.knoppix.net/
The Minimal requirement to install:
* Intel-compatible CPU (i486 or later)
* 16 MB of RAM for text mode
* At least 128 MB of RAM is recommended to use the various office products
* Bootable CD-ROM drive, or a boot floppy and standard CD-ROM * * Standard SVGA-compatible graphics card
* Serial or PS/2 standard mouse or IMPS/2-compatible USB-mouse.
Put the live CD and boot your PC. Follow the instruction until the graphic interface will be working. Depends on the Hard disk Size and your processor speed this procedure need your attention for two hour approximately. In the Set Up option of your PC. Select the CD ROM as the Primary Boot Option.
Look at the System>Knoppix installer and follow the default instruction. For the Beginners the the basic option are setting. Due to this procedure is handling th hard disk, Make a Backup of your data if is necessary.
Once finish the installation you will boot the computer and go to System>Update Manager to Update your new operative system with the newest software updates.
You can use the terminal from root user and execute an "apt-get update" command and Remove the live CD before re-boot the system.
